Thank you, exactly my thoughts too. People are reading into this way too much. And the white supremacy angle? Sounds a bit far fetched.

Will Smith is an ultra-privileged, rich man who seemingly felt he could resort to assaulting a comedian for making a distasteful but relatively mild joke about his famous and also rich wife. Part of Chris’ job was to roast the attendees (partly to humanise them as they’re often perceived as out of touch millionaires). I think this incident demonstrates what happens to someone who receives a disproportionate amount of praise, power, and wealth for being a public artist (and who knows how to play that role to a tee).

You’re right, if he was just your average clerk worker, regardless of colour, he’d be spending that evening in jail. And I’m not saying Will should. But I reckon he knew he wouldn’t because of the simple fact that he’s the Fresh Prince of Bell Air.
